Granny is a hospitable and caring woman, but is not afraid to defend herself. She was made tough through tragedy at a young age, when a werewolf killed her father and her brothers in front of her. She barely escaped with her own life, as the scars on her arm give proof. Because she was marked, she became a werewolf herself, and married the wolf who had killed her family. Her daughter Anita and granddaughter, Red Riding Hood, inherited the trait. Granny tried her best to shield her granddaughter from the horrors of the truth, so she obtained a magical red cloak for Red to keep her from turning into the werewolf while she was wearing it.
In Storybrooke Granny owns the diner as well as the Bed and Breakfast. Her warmth and friendliness make her like a grandmother to the people in town, but she is never afraid to pick up her crossbow if needed. She's one tough cookie.
